Many of our students take up the opportunity to travel to enrich their course or just because they can! They bring their experiences back to share with the wider school community. Trips happen locally and nationally as well as overseas.
In 2016 here’s a small selection of what’s available in overseas visits:
- Ski trip to Canada
- Language school in Montpelier
- Exchange to Malaga
- Cultural trip to China
- Work Experience placements in Berlin
- Cultural exchange to Oslo
Three times a year the timetabled curriculum is suspended to allow us to bring whole year groups together and engage in cross-curricular activities.
The Sixth Form Ignite Days include:
- Employability Fair
- Houses of Parliament and London
- Museum visit
- UCAS Conference
- Maths for Life – personal financial management
We have international links with France, Germany, Spain, China and Norway. We are also developing links with Brazil, USA and Holland! We have been an International School, as recognised by the British Council, since 2012 and have also been selected to be a GLP Expert Centre to deliver the Global Learning Programme between 2014 and 2016. As well as the opportunities offered through subject areas, we offer international experiences outside the curriculum. Once a year students are able to join teachers on a week’s visit to China where they experience Chinese education,
home life and its iconic history. Two students also visit Poland each year on the momentous ‘Lessons from Auschwitz’ programme from the Holocaust Education Trust and become ambassadors for holocaust education. We run a ‘Euroclass’ programme whereby thirty of Norway’s brightest students join us from September to Christmas and fully participate in all aspects of Sixth Form life. These Euroclass students are fluent in English and will be offering a return exchange for a group of our Hayesfield students from 2016.
Duke of Edinburgh Gold
We’re very proud of our superb Duke of Edinburgh scheme that runs throughout the school and culminates in the challenges and commitment of the Gold Scheme that a number of our students undertake every year, developing their skills, leadership and resilience. You will have the opportunity to sign up and achieve what you hadn’t thought was possible leading to a once-in a lifetime expedition.
